Watching the movie "the Martian" and I realized that we are about 10 years away from 100% self managing farming(autonomous farming).

let me explain, in the movie Mark Watney was stranded in Mars and had to figure it out how to grow food. In the movie they talk about a University in the Netherlands that have grown potatoes with Martian sand simulating. And they were successful.

So now in 2025 we have already robots that can plant seeds with precision ( John Deere autonomous tractors and planters), we will have drones where they can find what plant needs and make the precision irrigation( and fertilize the plant), and not only that. We have drones that can do precision spraying the plants(only the plant that needs the pesticide) without wasting a drop. We have drones that can capture the weeds. We don't even need to use tractors anymore. Soon we are gonna have those robots that can harvest using AI and cut only the plants that are ready and not the whole field. So we will only have to plant seeds and harvest it with robots.

So I think we are about 10 years away from 100% managing farming. What do you think?
