I literally don't understand this man. His mum and I get along fantastic, and he often says how lucky he is that his mum loves me so much. And she does!

He's just dropped me as a boyfriend because of this. This happened yesterday: his mum was over at our place, doing a bit of a spring clean. She doesn't like it when we clean cause she knows how lazy I can be when it comes to cleaning, so she always tries to tidy up when she comes to our place. We don't mind because it's always a good laugh, and it's nice to have someone around to talk to.

So my boyfriend was pottering in the garden, and I was just reading a book on the sofa when his mum was dusting the side table that I was reading on, so I moved over to make it easier for her, and as she was dusting, she kept looking at me and smiling. I asked her if she was okay, and she started crying. Like seriously crying. And I didn't want to just sit there like a bitch, so I got up and gave her a hug. But just then, my boyfriend came in and got super mad. He started shouting at his mum to stop crying, and got mad at me for giving her a hug, and told me to give her space. She told him to stop, but he got mad at her too.

I was seriously lost as to what the fuck was going on, so I asked him what was wrong, and he started shouting at me, telling me that he told me before not to hug his mother in public, and how embarrassed he was. I told him that I thought he was just joking, and he said it was seriously wrong and disrespectful to him and his mother. I told him that I didn't think it was that big of a deal, and it was nothing to get angry over, and that his mother was okay with it, but he just told me that he was done with me and asked me to move out by the end of this week.

I'm honestly so lost as to what's going on. Is this something that I seriously just don't know about? This just seems like another case of a guy getting angry over a woman hugging another woman. Like hello, isn't that what we call a toxic masculinity? Asking for my own ignorance, because I honestly don't get why this is an issue, and I don't know what to do now.
