The President of the United States was a Magician. <br><br>He had been elected in a landslide victory. He had left Washington D.C. for his hometown of Houston, Texas and raised a tower of gleaming black stone. <br><br>He had said nothing throughout his campaigns, he had simply smiled triumphantly as his poll numbers soared. <br><br>He had been sworn in with a ritual that wowed and terrified the nation. <br><br>He had written a single Executive Order: <br><br>“Peoples of Earth, you are under my protection, and subject to my rule.” <br><br>He had disappeared into the tower, which had been named the Spire of Truth, and was never seen again. <br><br>Some said that his first and only act as President had been to cast a spell of binding, forcing all elected officials to obey his bidding. <br><br>Others said he had given a speech, which was only heard by those who had been chosen to hear it. <br><br>It was known that he ruled through a council of advisors. Some said they were demons, others said they were angels, and some said they were simply very intelligent mortals. <br><br>Despite the controversy, the United States had prospered in ways no one would have thought possible. <br><br>Within a month of the President’s Inauguration, an end to world hunger had been achieved. <br><br>A new marvel had been produced almost every month since. <br><br>The seas had been cleaned. <br><br>The skies had been cleaned. <br><br>The land had been healed. <br><br>An end to disease had been achieved. <br><br>An end to death itself was said to be possible, but the President had decreed that such a thing was against the natural order. <br><br>The United States was at peace, and the rest of the world had quickly followed. <br><br>Yet despite the wonders it had achieved, the government was not a utopia. Crimes were punished swiftly and mercilessly. <br><br>Theft was punished with death. <br><br>Murder was punished with death. <br><br>Rape was punished with death. <br><br>Treason was punished with death. <br><br>Death row disappeared almost overnight. <br><br>The nation prospered. <br><br>The people were happy. <br><br>The world was at peace. <br><br>And at the center of it all was the tower, the Spire of Truth, where the President ruled over his kingdom.
