Sorry for the long post. English isn't my first language. I've lived in Wuhan for my entire life. After reading international news for the past 4-5 months I can't help but feel that what's happening in Hong Kong is actually fucking stupid? I don't buy the whole "China is taking away your autonomy" because the news I've been seeing just seems to contradict the international media.

I don't understand why claiming to be Chinese is a crime. I don't understand what's wrong with a couple of Russian journalists interviewing some Hong Kongers and seeing all the violent comments from Hong KongACL to them, calling them big nose Russians who are jealous of Chinese wealth. I don't understand why some on the mainland seem to act as if this is an international crisis and that we're losing face when from the international response it doesn't seem that way. I don't understand what's wrong with teaching Chinese in Hong Kong when it's a common language in China. I don't understand the hatred for the Mandarin-speaking mainlanders who just happen to be there for a holiday. I don't understand how protesters are violently getting beaten in front of live media and I don't understand why people are setting fire to some college students because they wore the wrong t-shirt. I don't understand what's wrong with some journalists from the mainland interviewing Hong Kongers. I don't understand why the Hong Kong Police Force is being called a terrorist organization. I really, really, REALLY don't understand why this situation has escalated to calling for war.

I've been to Hong Kong before. I saw this huge fucking building right next to the harbor and thought "wow, China really did it". I've gotten splashed by some pretty girls on a water bus. I've climbed a hill with my dad and looked at the view of Kowloon below. I've walked around Lantau Island in the pouring rain. I've gotten lost in some markets and found some really pretty traditional dresses. I've met some really nice locals who offered us free food. I've heard some pretty yummy Cantonese. I saw a really nice Chinese garden and when I visited a really nice temple my dad lit a few joss sticks and I got some very niceINSERT NON-DESCRIPT TAOIST STUFF HERE . I thought I was in China.

I read Twitter and Chambers and I'm confused as fuck. What the fuck is going on in Hong Kong?
