I (28f) used to live with my parents from the age of 22-26. When i was 26, i moved out and decided to buy my own home. After moving out, i paid back my parents $6000 which was the money i owed them which they paid for my education.

It has been 2 years i moved out and started paying them back. It has been a year i paid off all the debt i owed them. They never charged me rent while i lived with them, and when i moved out, i also never paid them rent.

My mother recently asked if she should expect to get some more money from me. She said they spent a lot of money on me and now they are struggling to afford things. I was shocked by this. Now they are asking for more money. I was expecting them to pay me back for all the years i spent working for them for free. I never paid rent or bought groceries while i lived with them, instead, i worked for them for free. I never even went on a holiday because i was always working for them. They never allow me to take a holiday or rest.

AITA for not giving them any more money, and for expecting them to pay me back for all the years of unpaid labor that i did for them.

UPDATE:

I'm sorry everyone, but i will not be providing more context. I'm a bit worried about someone finding out my real identity and getting me in trouble with my family. Thank you so much to everyone who commented, you guys gave me the strength to talk to my therapist about this. My therapist told me that i was a victim of abuse. moving out was the best decision i ever made. Thank you everyone for your kindness and for letting me know i'm not in the wrong. x
