YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki is resigning, the company announced on Thursday.<br><br>Wojcicki, who joined Google in 1999 and became YouTube CEO in 2015, will step down and transition to an advisory role at Alphabet, she said in an email to employees.<br><br>Neal Mohan, YouTube's chief product officer, will take over as CEO, Wojcicki said.<br><br>Wojcicki was one of the few high-profile female CEOs in the technology industry.<br><br>She said she would focus on family, health and personal projects in her new role.<br><br>"I will always be proud of what we've accomplished. I take so much pride knowing that we've left YouTube in good hands, and in a stronger position today than ever before," Wojcicki said in the email.<br><br>"I'm excited to be a YouTuber (yes!), continue to coach Neal, and to help with the transition over the next few months!"<br><br>Wojcicki became the CEO of YouTube in 2015, and under her served as a key liaison between the company's creators and major media companies.<br><br>She was instrumental in helping the company navigate increased competition from new players like TikTok.<br><br>Wojcicki joined Google in 1999 and served briefly as the company's 16th employee.<br><br>She left Silicon Valley in 2022, becoming one of the most notable tech executives to depart the area.
