A lot of the television shows using fully adult actors in a high school setting could easily change their plot to revolve around a college setting instead of the weird fixation television has on displaying the sex lives of high schoolers

I think a good example of this is the popular show Riverdale. If you haven’t heard, it’s a show using the characters of Archie comics in a teen murder drama ish show. In that show their lives are about whatever big mystery is going on, their relationships, and their friends. The characters in the show are high-school age (16 I believe) but a lot of the cast is actors in their mid-twenties (one actor is almost 29).

In the show, or as much as I’ve seen, being an actual high school student occupies very little of the character’s lives and the aspects of high school we do see the characters participate it could more or less be translated into a college setting. So why not just make the setting a college? The logic of “it’s based off a comic with high schoolers” doesn’t really hold a lot of water to me because they already deviate from the source material so much anyway.

And there’s a whole other level of problems with portraying high school or early high school age people having fairly actively sex lives, andutsch gratuitously displaying them for the sake of fanservice.

There’s a lot more shows like this and it bothers me that there’s still this fixation to write the plot of high schoolers and have it revolve so heavily around their love lives when there’s no logical reason to make the setting high school.
