After reading every comment and post from the last 18 hours, and trying several methods, I finally found one method that is foolproof.

Here is what worked best:

- A short length of piping (like PVC tubing)
- A vacuum cleaner hose
- A plastic bag of some sort (I use a large ziplock bag)
- A rubber band
- Tape

Instructions:

- Fit one end of the PVC tube over the vacuum cleaner hose (the hose fits neatly inside and is held in place by the rubber band)

- Place the other end of the PVC tube inside the large ziplock bag
- Put the other end of the vacuum cleaner hose into a bucket or trash can
- Stretch the ziplock bag over the end of the PVC tube
- Make sure the ziplock bag is not touching the PVC tube at any point
- Set up your vacuum cleaner and turn it on
- Wave the ziplock bag in the air detaining one or more of the bugs
- Slowly bring the ziplock bag towards the end of the PVC tube, and you will see the bugs get sucked into the tube
- Once the bag is empty, simply put it in the freezer for 10 minutes to kill the bugs, and repeat the process

This method has been effective, without setting off the fire alarms.
