Wife is in college, I live in a small studio apartment, and I ONLY eat chicken breast. Yet, I save $4,000 a month. Here's my story.

My mom literally laughed when I told her how much I save each month.

Back in 2018, I decided I was tired of not being financially stable. I didn't have any savings and all my money was being spent on unnecessary garbage. I was living with family and friends, staying on their couches. I promised myself that even if I struggle, I won't spend any money on stupid stuff.

I moved into a studio apartment of 300 sqft for $600. Got a CNA certification and started working at 23. I keep switching jobs because I always prioritize my wife above all else, and moved to California for her. I worked 50 hours a week plus overtime, and sometimes I had to give up a shift when she was in a bad mental state.

I pay $1800 for her college tuition. She also works 30 hours a week. I pay $3200 for rent and she pays $2000. We don't split bills 50/50, since I make much more. We cook rice, beans, and chicken breast for each meal. I absolutely do not tolerate waste of any kind. I don't lend money and I don't borrow. I don't go on vacation. I haven't been sick since childhood. I don't drink or do drugs. I don't hang out with friends unless it's a small gathering. I don't eat outside or order food.

I'm not saying everyone should live like this. But that's my lifestyle. There is a fine line between enjoying life and using money for happiness. For the past 5 years, I save $4,000 a month.

I'm telling this story because I'm tired of seeing people complain about being broke. I'm tired of seeing people buy food from fast food restaurants, get obesity, diabetes, and complain about the government not paying for their health bills. It's all about making the right choices. There are a lot of people who have it worse than me and yet they're still making it through. There are tons of people who make it to med school on their own without complaining about the circumstances they're in. It's time people take responsibility for their lives and stop blaming the system or government. There is always a way to get out of that situation. But it requires patience, determination, and the resolve to make sacrifices.
