This is probably different for all of us, but as I make my rounds right now on this beautiful day with my animals around me and in the barns, i just feel so so happy. If you want to call me lucky because my life is easier than the average breeder, I dont care.

I saw a post on here the other day about how breeding is the worst job ever, and I couldnt disagree more.

I live on an island, and I have 10 acres. I have 3 cows, 120 chickens, 8 pigs, 24 rabbits, 8 sheep, 6 goats, and an alpaca. I dont sell much of what I produce, but it’s exactly enough. I dont have to hire anyone for help. I make enough money each year to do this and my garden and my bees, and be comfortable. I dont care that I didn’t get rich. I want to say this over and over again. Being a farmer is not for the rich, it’s for the people who love doing this. If i became rich i would just buy more animals and fix my house up, and maybe take a vacation if I could find a place to leave my animals. This is my calling; I wouldnt trade this for the world.

I love all of my animals. Am i attaching myself to them? Yeah, I am. When they die or get injured, I will cry. Should i just go to the grocery store like the average person? Fuck no.

You work hard, you get to reap what you sowed. You get to watch your hard work thrive. You work outside. You get dirt under your nails and the sun on your face. You watch your animals grow up. You get to interact with the earth. Being a farmer is a calling.

Watching my baby ram run around is the highlight of my day. Pets dont do that. Pets have the same routine every day. My animals run around, and i get to see how they interact with each other.

I feel like this is the only place I can say this and not be considered weird. I love my animals and my farm, and i wouldnt have it any other way.
