How many hours of your life do you spend on buying and selling stuff? What is the net gain to your life from this?

Let's take a moment to consider the time and effort involved in buying and selling stuff. To me, minimalism is not just about having less stuff, but about spending as little time as possible on the never-ending cycle of acquiring and discarding stuff.

From browsing online to physically going to shops, trying things out, comparing products, reading reviews, buying, maintaining items, looking after them, keeping them clean, storing them away, deciding when to replace them, selling them, and buying again.

On top of that there is the time spent on getting money to buy stuff. And then perhaps even more time spent recovering from the impacts of overconsumption (stress, health problems) or on making up for the impacts of overconsumption (e.g., therapy).

Imagine what you could do with all the time that's freed up by not buying and selling stuff. What would you gain in your life if you were to stop buying and selling stuff for a year?

What would you lose, if anything?
