I (F26) am a flight attendant. 2 weeks ago I had my day off in Chicago. I got to the airport really early. I don't know why. I was bored, and just sitting at home (I live close to the airport). So I went to the airport. My flight to Boston was at 8. I got there around 5 am. I go through security, and decide to go to the United Club there to have a snack, watch TV, just relax.

I go up to the desk to give them my boarding pass, and the lady at the desk says that it doesn't look like I'm flying with United. I say I'm not, but I have United credit cards, which gets me into the club for free. She says that's fine, and I can come in.

I go in and sit down. This location at the club doesn't have a bathroom inside the club, it has one in the hallway, right next to the club. So around 6, I go out to the bathroom. I go in my stall, shut the door, begin to do my business, and all of a sudden I hear the main door open and shut. This is supposed to be a single person bathroom, so I kind of just ignore it. Then my stall door starts to slowly open. I start freaking out, but manage to calmly, but sternly, say "who is there?"

A man's voice says "oh I'm sorry" and the door closes, then the main door opens and shuts. So I finish what I'm doing. I open the main door and look both ways. There is nobody there. So I go back into the club. I sit down and I ask the lady at the desk if anyone just came out of the bathroom. She says no. I tell her what happened. She said nobody came out of the bathroom recently. I ask if there are any security cameras in the hall. She says yes. I ask if she can check them and see if there was anybody in there. I look and the cameras are right outside the door, so if someone was in there, it would be visible.

She checks the camera and she sees that a man was in there. She hits a panic button to call airport security, but realizes it was the wrong button, and calls the actual airport police. I let them know that my flight is at 8, so if they want me to give a report, they better be here soon.

Somehow it takes them 45 minutes to show up, but fortunately I don't have to give a report because the cameras caught the man's face. So when the police show up, I tell them everything and show them the camera footage. They say that I need to give a report, and then they will walk me to my gate since my boarding time is approaching.

I tell them which gate my flight is at, and they tell me to follow them. They walk me down to my gate, give me a copy of the report, and sit and wait with me while everyone boards. Then they walk me down to the door. One of the police officers tells me to email him the incident report from the airline. He says that if they get a report too, then they will have a better chance at catching this guy. They say to always be aware of my surroundings.

I get on the plane, and tell one of the flight attendresses what happened. I show her the report and everything. Both of the flight attendresses are very nice. When we finish boarding they say that they're going to tell the pilot and the copilot what happened. They say that the pilot will most likely come and talk to me. So we take off, and when we are at 10,000 feet the pilot comes to me and tells me that if he is on the plane, he will not hurt me. The pilot says that he will trust that the police got rid of him.

He tells me that he will call the airport police and let them know that I'm on the flight. He says that if they haven't caught the man by the time we land, he will tell the airport police in Boston and they will meet the flight. The flight attendresses are periodically checking on me the entire flight. When we land the pilot calls the Boston airport police and tells them everything. When we taxi to the gate two police officers meet us at the door.

I give them the reports and they tell me to follow them. They ask me if I have any bags at baggage claim. I said I do. They said don't worry about it, we will get it for you. If this guy is in the airport, you will not see him. They take me to the airport's lost and found, where they keep people who have been arrested until the real police come to get them. They tell me to wait here. They go get my bags and put them in the room. They told me they went through security cameras at both airports and found that the man did not get on my flight.

They said that since the man left the airport, the Chicago airport police are handling it. They tell me the Chicago airport police will call me, and that they have told them to tell me if they catch the man. I tell them thank you and that they did not have to go through all this trouble for me. They say that this is what they are here for.

They walk me outside to the taxi stand. One of the police officers pays for my taxi. They tell me to stay safe and if I have any other problems, let them know. I get in the taxi and go to my hotel. I stay there for a day, and then fly back to Chicago. When I get back to Chicago, the police officer that I emailed the airline report to emails me back.

He said that a couple of hours after I left, they got a report of a similar incident from another flight attendant. He said they went through security cameras and found where the man went after he left the bathroom. He said the man went to a stairway, that is only supposed to be used by airport employees. It has an alarm if someone uses it without swiping an employee ID. He said the cameras followed the man into the stairway and he swiped an ID to turn off the alarm.

He said they have the name of the employee who's ID was used. He said that the employee who's ID was used has been an employee for over 10 years with no incidents. He said the employee said that he reported his ID missing a couple of days before the incident happened. He said they have reviewed cameras from the couple of days before the incident, and the cameras don't show anyone stealing the ID at security, or at any stores.

He said they still don't know who the man was. They reviewed cameras at security and couldn't find him. He said they couldn't go back any further than a couple of days on the cameras. He said where the cameras are located, they can't see the man in the United Club. He said they couldn't find footage of him anywhere else in the airport.

He said they reviewed footage from cameras at all entrances, and couldn't find him. He said the only footage of him was the camera outside of the United Club. He said the FBI is looking at the footage to see if they can enhance it enough to match it with anyone in their database. He said they have reason to believe that the man is someone who has commit similar crimes in airports around the country.

He said they are looking at past footage from airports to see if they can match it with the footage from O'Hare. He told me to email him anytime I have an incident. He said to always be aware of my surroundings, but to not worry about something like this happening again. I just hope they catch the guy. I would not want him to do this to anyone else.
