**This is not legal advice and you should always check the laws in your state.** This might be a long post, but bear with me.

You can purchase firearms online, but it's not as simple as just ordering whatever you want and having it delivered to your doorstep. You must have an FFL (Federal Firearms License) holder accept the firearm. You pay the FFL holder to transfer the firearm to you. There is also shipping fees from the retailer to the FFL.

There are multiple ways to purchase a firearm online, and multiple sources to purchase it from. I personally use the Gun Marathon app to compare prices and find which retailer has the least expensive firearm.

There are a plethora of retailers to buy firearms online, some more expensive than others. Some retailers also have a higher shipping fee than others. Some retailers do offer free shipping to the FFL, but they compensate their free shipping by a higher MSRP. You can purchase firearms from local gun stores, but they may not be the most affordable.

Some popular online firearms retailers include:

Gunprime - Their shipping is $15 flat rate to any FFL, with free shipping on orders over $500.

Ammo Depot - Their shipping is $15 flat rate to any FFL, with a $25 shipping to select states.

Bud's Guns - Their shipping is $15 flat rate to any FFL.

Palmetto State Armory - Their shipping is $10 flat rate to any FFL.

Academy - Their shipping is $15 flat rate to any FFL.

Gander Outdoors - Their shipping is $20 flat rate to any FFL.

Sportsman's Warehouse - Their shipping is $15 flat rate to any FFL.

Scheels - Their shipping is $20 flat rate to any FFL.

Cabela's - Their shipping is $25 flat rate to any FFL.

Bass Pro Shops - Their shipping is $25 flat rate to any FFL.

You ALWAYS have to pay transfer fees, even if the retailer offers free shipping. Transfer fees are quoted by whatever FFL is holding the firearm for your transfer. Transfer fees are mandated by law in most states, but not all. In some states, all transfers are free. In other states, it's not only federal law requiring FFL transfers, but it is also state law that you have to pay a transfer fee on all of your own firearms. The transfer fee typically also includes background checks, but you can also pay extra for expedited background checks if you want.

That's all of the information I can think of at the moment. This isn't meant to be a definitive guide, but a helpful guide for new gun owners.
