As a nurse, I am enraged

I am a nurse in the US. Most people don't do what I do when they grow up. Most people see the shit I see and quit the profession. I have seen patients die on the table, been screamed at by family members who use ad hominem attacks, gotten shit on, and been witness to the worst shit imaginable.

But the one thing that is getting to me, the one thing that makes me want to scream, are the antivaxxers and the people who won't wear masks. We dealt with COVID by the skin of our teeth by working 12 hour shifts with half our staff missing because they were out sick with COVID.

But now, we are in the "post-COVID era". Except its not. We are still getting waves of COVID patients. The numbers are much lower, but still there. But we also have a full hospital of people with gunshot wounds, car accidents, and heart attacks. And the fucking ICUs are still full of COVID patients.

If you don't want to get vaxxed, that is your choice. But if you get COVID and need an ICU bed when there isn't any, then you are fucked and so are the dozens of people who need an ICU bed but can't get one because a 40 year old otherwise healthy person decided that they would rather die from COVID than get a vaccine.
