After having an interview, is it unprofessional to email asking what the hiring decision was?

I'm still in college and applying for internships, and I had an interview last week for a job I was really excited for. However, it's been a week and I haven't heard back from them. When I went to the interview, they didn't say when they'd contact me again, so I don't know if I should just wait it out or send an email asking if they had made their hiring decision yet.<br><br>My current job is also willing to offer me a technical internship, but they want to know if I have to do it through them by next week. So I don't really know if I should wait to hear from the other company, or just accept the one I have already.<br><br>TLDR: I had an interview, and they said they'd contact me again but haven't. Should I wait to hear from them or contact them asking if they made a decision yet?
