People said I was crazy for not buying a $3k suit for my sisters wedding.

I have an older sister who’s a type-A personality. She’s a lawyer, and makes good money. She recently got married. <br><br>I’m the complete opposite, I’m frugal, minimalist, and I work as a server. <br><br>I knew that this wedding would be a problem for me. She wanted everyone to dress up, I have one suit, and it was a cheap one from target. It fit fine, but was too warm and the material was not the best. Still, it looked okay, and I wore it to every fancy occasion and never got any complaints. <br><br>So months go by, and they keep changing the venue, the date, and the style of the wedding. Finally, a month ago, it was settled that it would be at a hotel, on a Friday, and the dress code would be formal. <br><br>I’m not sure if I’m 6’4 or 6’5, I have a hard time finding clothes, because of this I had a feeling that they would call me out on my cheap suit, but my father reassured me that it was fine, the way I looked. <br><br>My sister disagreed. <br><br>I’m a groomsman. So I was supposed to wear a blue tuxedo. She wanted me to buy a new one. A nice one, from the other groomsmen. <br><br>I said that I couldn’t afford it. They were all supposed to look the same, so I would have to buy an expensive one. I didn’t want to spend 3000$ on a one time thing, that I would only wear once or twice, and that would go in the closet for the rest of the time. <br><br>She told me that I was putting myself before her, I should spend the money and put myself in her shoes. She wanted her wedding to look perfect. I told here that I only had 300$ for the trip. I was coming from overseas. <br><br>She said that I was a liar, that I earn more than that as a server. I Iike to save money on the road, and to make more money than I spend. I spend very little, and try to get more tips by being a better server. <br><br>I told her that I don’t have the money to buy that stupid outfit. She said that once I was there, I could borrow a credit card from my father, to pay for it. <br><br>I said that I was not going to do that. <br><br>During the whole trip, my sister critized my outfit, and tried to change my clothes. I said that I was not going to do it. In the end, when we were dressing up before the ceremony, one of the groomsmen gave me his outfit, and said that he would wear the same one that I wear. <br><br>So I wore his outfit. <br><br>I don’t know, but still, my sister texted me, telling me how ungrateful and selfish I was. <br><br>Edit: I wore a bow tie and suspenders, not a long tie.
