I don't know what to do

I'm a 25 year old woman who has been writing for a long time. I have a bachelors degree in English, a masters in creative writing, and I'm currently doing my PhD in literature and creative writing.

I just got back from my first academic conference. It was a lot of fun, I made some great connections, and I did very well with my presentation.

After the presentation, I was eating breakfast and using the hotel wifi to work on some stuff. The woman at the table next to me noticed my conference badge, and asked me what I study. I told her. She said, "I really wish women like you were not allowed to study that stuff." She said that I didn't deserve to be allowed to study what I study. She said I should be arrested and deported.

I have no idea what she meant. I'm white and from the US. I'm not undocumented.

However, a few days prior to this, I posted something on Facebook. I posted a link to a study on the existence of systemic sexism in the US. It's a study run by the United Nations. I posted it because it backs up a lot of the points I have been making in another thread.

I have been blocked by a few people. Some of my cousins and one of my aunts got really mad. I'm getting a lot of messages from men who are mad and calling me stupid and ugly, etc.

I don't know what to do. I feel scared. I don't know if it has anything to do with what the woman at the hotel said, or if it's just a weird coincidence.
