I'm going to try something crazy

I want to get my students to read and discuss a book without them realizing it. I have a weekly 20-30 minute homeroom every day, and I plan on using that to do this. I think I will mail out a physical copy of the book, or maybe drop it off, to all of my students, and put a fake letter on it from the local government saying that it is mandatory that they read it, and that they need to all read it at the same time. Then, I will have them discuss it during homeroom. Some questions will be given out beforehand, but it will mostly be open ended discussion. I plan on not being anywhere near the room while they do it, so they don't realize that it is actually for class. I think this will help to create an more open discussion, and help with participation as well.

I'm thinking of going with either "1984" or "Fahrenheit 451" for this. I think either would be good choices.
