About a year ago my wife whom is 8 months is pregnant and I decided to sell most of our belongings and move to a rental house after our lease expired. We had a huge yard but no time to enjoy it and a very large 3 bedroom house with 3 full bathrooms that we could barely afford. We lived in our bedroom mostly.

We downsized to a small 2 bedroom house that is actually pretty nice and we enjoy the yard. We are still living out of boxes but we are slowly getting to things. But we are enjoying life and our baby girl a lot more.

Here is some of the things we did and how it has changed our lives for the better.

**We sold over 1/2 of our belongings**
We sold anything of value. This was very painful at first but once we realized we were going to be financially better off and not having to deal with all of our crap was an incredible feeling. We started selling and donating anything we did not use in the last year or so. We sold two trucks as well as my wife's SUV and we are now down to one car. It has been quite the change but this is probably the best decision we made.

**We got a smaller house**
We have downsized from a large 3 bedroom house to a modest 2 bedroom house. I must say life is so much easier and comfortable without having to worry about cleaning and maiting a huge house.

**We are cooking more and eating healthier**
In an effort to save money we have been cooking more at home and eating healthier. I make a lunch for my wife and I and we also make breakfast every morning other than Sunday. We are feeling a lot better than we were and even our dog enjoys a healthier life with us now.

**We are more financially secure and able to be fiscally irresponsible.**
We were living month to month not including our major purchases we made when we were feeling a little too good. Now we are living on less than 1/2 of what we were making. We do have to be careful but we are able to make mistakes now and not have to worry so much about money. We have been able to save up for the upcoming arrival of our baby girl as well as purchase what we need for her comfort and nourishment.

**We have much more time to enjoy life now.**
We have much less to worry about now we can spend time doing things that make us happy. We enjoy walks in the evening and playing with our dog in the yard. We spend a lot of time together in our bedroom now as it is much smaller than what we were used to so we have to be creative in our togetherness other than the bedroom part ;).

All in all, this has been the best decision we have ever made.
