How close are we to a Ray Kurzweil level AI

Ray Kurzweil says by 2045 we will have an event called "the singularity" where we have a machine which is smarter than a human. From that point on the machines will be making themselves exponentially more intelligent and at some point we might not be able to understand what they are doing. There will be so many changes happening in such a short period of time. He also says that by 2029 we will have AI which is as smart as a human. It feels like we are very close to being there in 2029. What are your thoughts on this, what is the end result of something like this if it were to be true
