What happened to oil prices?

Just a few months ago, oil (and gasoline) prices were over $100 a barrel. Today oil prices are about $80 a barrel. It seems like oil companies made a come to Jesus moment and drastically lowered their prices all of a sudden. Why, and can you expect future prices to fall?
