Saved the world today (well, maybe not, but I already feel better).

I work from home and was taking a nap and woke up to the sound of rain. I tried to take a shower and there was no hot water. I have a septic system and well but I have city water which is cold. I checked and I had a bright blue light on my water heater which usually means "system failure" or "call a repair technician". I have a 50 gallon electric hot water heater that is 7 years old or so. I grabbed my multimeter and, after doing some research, checked the voltage and found that I had 240v coming into the breaker panel but only 80v coming out of the panel to the water heater. I then checked the breakers and found that one of the breakers had tripped and the other two were turned off. I flipped all the breakers on and tested the voltage at the water heater and found I had 240v again. I checked the water temp and it was 98 degrees which is the lowest temperature I have ever seen it. I grabbed my shower head and as I was taking a shower I checked the temperature and it was around 104 degrees.

Sometimes I read these stories about people who have much bigger problems but I fixed mine in an hour or so.
