China's first homemade large passenger plane completes maiden flight

SHANGHAI (AP) — China's first large homemade jet, the C919, carried out its maiden flight Friday, becoming the country's first passenger aircraft capable of competing with the dominance of Western giants Boeing and Airbus. The Commercial Aircraft Corp. of China (COMAC) touted the flight as marking a "major breakthrough" in the development of the Chinese aviation industry. The narrow-body jet is expected to make its commercial debut in 2023 or 2024.
