Why do so many Modern Men believe they’ve never seen an average, normal-looking woman in the media?

I don’t get why every time you say “Oh, it’s sad that women are often portrayed as expected to look like a Barbie doll in most of the media” some men will use that as a chance to say “Well, isn’t it nice that all of our nerdy and geeky media (e.g.: The Big Bang Theory, Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, etc.) have no issues with having average-looking men in their media and it doesn’t bother us?” <br><br>But why on Earth do so many men believe that average women are never treated with the same respect they are? It’s baffling, at best. But why? Why do they think women are treated far worse than them? Why does the patriarchy allow average women to be treated so badly when they don’t do the same to men? Is it because they think women are “worse” than them and “should” be? Am I just being paranoid?
