What's the deal with the plastic?

I just spent an hour making a salad and two hours making a fruit salad. That was a rough hour and two hours. I already felt a little bad for the planet but it's been a few years since I really looked at all the packaging I use.

Can anyone tell me why I need to mix and match two dozen different plastics in salads? We can't just have a few types of plastic? Do I really need 15 different plastic containers to buy fresh produce? Do I really need a plastic bag for each head of lettuce? Do I really need to buy plastic bags to make fresh salad? Am I really not allowed to bring my own bags? Why do I keep getting charged by grocery stores for buying plastic bags?

I just want to make salads. I want to eat fresh and healthy and not hurt my budget. I don't want to hurt the planet, I want to protect it. But what can I do if it's not allowed? Why don't they allow us to protect the planet? It's been years since I bought plastic water bottles, plastic straws, went to a chain fast food restaurant, went to a chain coffee shop, or used a plastic bag. I've tried to do my part. But the plastic just isn't stopping, no matter how hard I try.

I just want to eat healthy and protect the planet, but it's not allowed. I feel like I'm not allowed to live.
