Amazon to shut 8 of its warehouses in UK, affecting 1,300 jobs

Amazon is to shut eight of its warehouses in Britain, affecting 1,300 jobs, the e-commerce giant said Tuesday, blaming decreased demand following the pandemic and a changing retail landscape.<br><br>The company said it would invest in upgrading its remaining sites in the UK where some of the impacted staff will be redeployed, adding that it was "always looking for ways to improve efficiency so we can continue to invest in our business".<br><br>Amazon first announced in January that it would shut three of its warehouses in Britain, impacting 500 jobs.
