I (F20) found out that when my boyfriend (M22) flushes the toilet and someone is nearby washing their hands, he purposefully stays in there for an extra 2-3 minutes to get them to leave. I (F20) am really disturbed by this. How should I (F20) approach him about this?

So we live in a sorority house and there are 3 stall bathrooms on each floor that are shared. Today I was washing my hands but I ran out of paper towels to dry them and my roommate told me she was about to bring some to me but a girl rushed out of one of the bathroom stalls and ran out of the bathroom altogether. I thought it was weird so I went to see what she was doing and she said she heard movement behind her and didn’t want to get in there with someone else.

When one of my other roommates was washing her hands a little while later she was talking to me and flushed the toilet in the stall next to her, and it sounded like a man’s voice saying oh shit?. She said that it sounded like a man was in there but she couldn’t see anyone’s feet. She thought it was weird but didn’t think much of it and continued to get ready for class and when she went into the stall she said that it smelled like male cologne in there.

Something told me to check in the other stall but when I tried to open it, it was locked. So I started talking to the “bathroom spirit” asking if they were okay, if they needed toilet paper, etc. The voice on the other side said they were fine but came out a few seconds after and it was my boyfriend. When I asked him what he was doing he told me that it’s something he’s always done. Whenever he hears someone in the stall next to him flushing, he will flush his toilet and intentionally stay in there for up to 5 minutes (depending on how long they’re in there) so they leave and he can have his privacy.

I thought it was hilarious at first but the more I thought about it the more it actually really disturbed me. Like the fact that he won’t let people have their privacy when they go to the bathroom is crazy (especially if they have digestive issues) and it also makes me wonder if he’s doing this in my house, if he’s been doing this when we’ve gone to other peoples houses, etc. How should I approach him about this?
