I (F24) got a job offer with a company I used to work for, but the CEO’s daughter is now my age and in a role I could’ve been promoted to. How uncomfortable do you think the dynamic would be?

I (F24) worked at a certain company a couple of years ago (+-7 months). I was entry level at the time and one of my colleagues was the CEO’s daughter (also my age). She was doing the same job (and still is doing the same job) Our work environment was quite small with our desks right next to each other and we were in a small office with probably around 7 people in total. The CEO also sits in the office so she’s always there. I had a good relationship with her, but also with the CEO and everyone else. I was honestly quite naive and didn’t realise how uncomfortable she was with me at times.

I’ve had a job offer with this company and am thinking of taking it. I’ve been offered a senior role, but the CEO’s daughter could’ve been in that role. She’s also someone that you could’ve promoted to a senior role. I’m not sure if this would cause friction, but my worry is that her father could’ve promoted her in this role and she probably could’ve done it. I’m not sure if she feels like she’s being ‘overlooked’ in a way. I’m also worried that she could be in a more senior role in the future? She’s the CEOs daughter, so it’s likely that she would probably be in a more senior role going forward. It’s funny, because I think we could be friends, but I’m worried about the dynamic and power play at work (that she could possibly be in a more senior role later on and I don’t want to be in an awkward position).
