The most professional thing you can do right now is watch yourself in this insanity

You can be pissed. You can be upset. You can be hurt. But you need to keep it together right now. Your children are watching.

They already have parents that are taking them to Disneyland and leaving them in the hotel room alone, buying them brand new cars for their 16th birthday, sneaking them into 21+ clubs to get drinks (and then suing the clubs for overserving their minor children), and letting them throw tantrums in the store because they can't get their way. We are the last bastion of sanity in these children's lives.

We cannot let the madness of society bleed into our classrooms. It's hard, when it hits us so damn close to home. But we have to be the professionals that we are and keep it together for children who need us to be the adult in the room.

Let them talk. Let them complain. Let them rage. Let them cry. And when they are through, give them something to do. Give them a worksheet, give them a book to read, hell give them a fucking coloring sheet. They need to get this shit gone.

And if you need help keeping your shit together, consider a sub. A mental health day is 100% in order right now.

Edit: I should have clarified that this is about the Roe decision in the US. I'm getting a lot of comments about what to say to students who are celebrating, and I am so sorry but YTA. This chamber is pro-women. If you're having trouble with that, you need to go somewhere else.
