I've been banned twice from this chamber, once for my first post and a second time for my comment in r/unpopularopinion. Whatever.

I believe that targeted advertising can be good for the consumer.

My evidence comes from a study from Harvard Business Review that found that when users block tracking, they are more likely to see dead end ads that are spammy or unpleasant. If a user agrees to permit cross-site tracking, they are more likely to see ads that are of interest to them.

For example, someone who reads about CrossFit on CrossFit.com, and has allowed cookie tracking, is going to see CrossFit gyms advertising to them on Facebook. The person who blocks cookies on CrossFit.com is going to see a spammy ad from GNC that isn't nearly as relevant to them.

That is my CrossMyView.

I can be swayed with evidence to the contrary. What say you fellow redditors?
