A new refrigerator is cheaper than a repair

I was a die hard fix it fanatic. My best friend has an appliance repair business and I’ve always bragged about this appliance been used since the 80’s or that one since the 70’s etc.

Today I got a quote to fix my refrigerator that was a little over $400 for an issue with the defrost timer. Not too bad. Except the fridge is from 1988. I did some research and the average lifespan of a refrigerator is about 13 years. I found a very basic new refrigerator at Home Depot for about $400. And I’m done with it. I’m tired of these constant repairs and I’m sure there could be other issues down the line that I’ve have to pay for. It’s just not worth it. There are new refrigerators out for under $500 and I think it’s time for me to purchase one.

I know that this sub is all about being frugal and I guess you could say that I’m still being frugal. But I’m also being realistic about the cost of repairs.
