This happened to me about a year ago and I’m still on edge about it.

It was early December and I was working on Christmas ornaments for my friends and I. I’m a big fan of true crime, so I was listening to a crime junkie podcast while I was crafting, and I had the tv on, but I wasn’t paying attention to it.

I live in a small house off campus, with just a basement and one floor. My bedroom and the attic are well insulated, so everything echoes really nice. I was in my bedroom when I heard my tv in the living room go silent.

The channel changed. I was distracted, but I heard a guy’s voice and thought maybe my show came back on, but then I heard a kid’s voice. This was an episode of Dr. Phil, a Christmas episode with a guy who had been accused of being a pedophile.

Then I heard the tv turn off, and I could hear someone in my kitchen, followed by the sound of my back door opening. I ran from my bedroom to the back door, and by the time I got there, I saw a guy I had never seen before running up the hill in my backyard.

I can’t tell you what he looked like, because I was so in shock, but I do know he was wearing a dark hoodie.

I called my best friend and told him what had happened. He came right away. I didn’t call the police but I should have, and that still bothers me.

The only thing that’s weird is that my door locks every time it shuts, so the only possibility is that the guy left my door unlocked when he left or I left the door unlocked when I came home. I’m sure I locked it, but I obviously can’t be 100% sure.

Either way, I put a lock on my bedroom door so I can sleep at night.

So, weirdo, who I still haven’t filed a missing person report on, let’s not meet.
