A real concern with the "eye-for-an-eye" mentality: How would you even heal?

Imagine the scenario where someone murders your child the same way their father murdered your other child.

You’ve sentenced them to death as they sentenced their father. Now, do you think you’ll ever be able to heal from the loss of your child, or will there always be a churning in your stomach every time you think of what you’ve done, even if it was "justified"?

Will you now be able to even look at your remaining child knowing that the person who did this to them is going to die? Even if they never see their father again, will you be able to even look at your child knowing that they are an orphan?
