Has anyone ever experienced something like this?

So I know there’s a similar thread to this, but it’s locked and old, so I thought I would ask this here.

I’m curious to know because I had this happen recently and I’m still reeling from it.

Basically, I was on a voice call on Discord with 2 friends of mine. I live in the US and they live in Australia. I had just gotten into bed, and was going to sleep, so I said my goodbyes and was about to close the voice call, but I had a moment where I thought I was on mute, or my mic wasn’t working. So I clicked to unmute, and suddenly, my voice echoed back to me, but it was all jumbled and in a weird order. It was like I was speaking backwards. It lasted for about 2 seconds. But for those 2 seconds, I was in a state of confusion and terror. I was disoriented and had to take a second to verify that I was awake in the real world. I was so confused, I forgot I was on a voice call. I strongly felt like I was dreaming, and had to pinch myself and remind myself where I was and what I was doing.

The reason as to why I was disoriented was because Discord was echoing my voice back to me as I spoke, but there was a slight delay, and when you speak, you can usually hear your voice echo back to you as you speak. But it was jumbled here. I was saying something, and I heard part of it from a few seconds ago, with what I was saying now, and they were jumbled and overlapped and in reverse. It was so confusing. The echo delay was about 3 seconds.

I have no idea what happened, but I think it’s related to how voice calls work on Discord. My internet or phone line must have been wonky, and it jumbled the data. But what’s crazy is that I was already asleep, and I wasn’t fully there. I was in a dream state. My brain was disoriented and my perception of reality was already messed up. I think that’s why I was so viscerally shocked. It was like someone strongly shook me and woke me up. A real life version of the matrix. I truly felt like I was living in a dream world, or that I had just woken up. Like when you wake up and you’re a kid again.
