So this story has a little bit of a context before we get into it, I (26m) live on the ground floor of a flat in an apartment complex. The neighbors on the top floor have like 3 boys and girls and they are all close to my age, so sometimes we chill. One of the boys(27) is s**t scared of robbers, so he always tells me to keep an ear out incase something happens. That is our little story and now on to the meat.

It was a night like any other, I was home alone playing some games, everything was quiet. It was 12:30 am, some time in march or April, I don't really remember, anyway. I started to get a vibe, like something was off, but I couldnt quite tell what it was. Suddenly I heard the neighbors entrance door to the apartment complex open, it sounded like someone opened it like an idiot or something had been jammed. Now it didnt sound weird because a lot of people live in this complex and sometimes the door can be troublesome. So I thought nothing of it at first, and I just focussed on my game again, until I heard the neighbors door on the top floor being jimmied.

That made my heart race and the weird thing is that the neighbor who always told me to be on the lookout for robbers had many times told me that his parents never locked the door so their children could get in when they came home late or something, always thinking that the robbers would be in the living room. So when I heard the door being jammed, I knew that something was off. I guess its fate, but if he hadnt told me countless times that his parents never locked the door, I would have assumed that was the case and gone to bed. I walked over to the living room and opened up the window, and looked around. I could however only see the street, and not the side of the house where the door is. I didnt want to look straight at the robber, so I got a chair and a pillow and put it on the windowsill.

I heard the robber jam the door and it opened, I heard the guy getting inside. So I called the neighbor and told him his place was getting robbed at the moment. I also called the police and told them that a place was being robbed. I hung up the phone and listened for a bit, I heard the robber stumbling around inside the apartment, and at some point he opened like three doors in a row, I guess he was just stumbling around without a clue on what was going on. After a bit I heard him opening the balcony door, I looked and it was a bearded man. I saw him look around the balcony and the windows. I guess he was trying to enter through the windows. So I knew that he was going to go through the whole apartment, he was going to find windows and doors all over the apartment so I decided it was time to get him out. I threw the chair in the garden not too far from me and yelled at the robber "I'm calling the police" The robber started to panic, he jumped off the balcony and started to run. If you have read any of my other stories you know that I know how to make a lot of noise. All I can say is that the whole neighborhood must have heard me, I yelled for a solid minute and I banged and made a lot of noise against the window. One of our neighbors on the ground floor heard the whole thing and are currently writing up a police report. I guess the noise must have scared the robber since he started to slow down, while the sound fooled the police since they thought that the robbers where inside and started to crash their cars and yell "POLICE" in the whole neighborhood. I guess the combination of him slowing down and the police raising hell caused the guy to panic and jump into the bush.

The police started to search the whole neighborhood. I looked outside and found the robber. he had jumped into a bush and hid. I told another neighbor to distract the police while I snuck up on the robber and went to go look for him. I had a garden fork and a big rock with me, and I was trying to sneak up on the guy. At one point one of the police officers looked at me while I was trying to sneak up on the robber. I gave the guy a look of "not right now" and he understood what I meant. if the robber saw the police he would have panicked. I walked up to the bush and yelled "Get the fuck out of here" At this point I was still trying to not startle the guy, I didn't know if he had a knife or something. He left, and the police chased him. I don't know what happened, but I know he didnt get caught.

The whole neighborhood was in shock, the woman who lives in the apartment next to me saw the whole thing go down while she was in her bed. She told me that she saw the guy pull out a big knife and that she was scared for her life. She thought about calling the police but she was scared that the guy would notice her, since her window were open. So she just peeked through the curtain. The neighbor who I had been talking to earlier sent me a text later that day saying that he was really glad that I was his neighbor.

I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't been there, but I do know that I saved the neighbors parents.
