Edit: I don't get WIC anymore. My oldest is 5 now so I don't qualify for that anymore. Also none of this is child support money. This is how much money I have to make ends meet. I also do not receive any financial assistance from my children's father.

I'm 25 and I have 3 boys under 5. I am a single mom and wanted to share my budget with you all. I take home $2,500/mo as a nurse of 4 years. The boys were born in 2019, 2021, and 2023. I have gotten very good at cutting unnecessary spending, so I thought I'd share my budget to help you all see what it's like to live on a single income of 3 young children.

After taxes, health insurance, 401(k), and life insurance I bring home $2,567/mo. Here is my budget:

1. House: $1,350 (this is for my mortgage, property tax, and property insurance)

2. Utilities: $275 (this is for water, electricity, gas, and internet)

3. Health insurance: $540 (this is for myself and my children)

4. Phone bill: $115 (this is for my phone bill, which also includes a streaming service for my children)

5. Groceries: $490 (this is for all of our groceries for the month and I do not get any government assistance, but I do get $200/mo WIC)

6. Gas: $100 (I live close to work, but I travel a lot for work and we like to take weekend trips, so this covers gas for the month)

7. Car payment: $302 (I have an SUV that I purchased last year. It's all-wheel drive and really safe, so I like it)

8. Auto insurance: $96 (I pay this every month, but I do pay 6 months in advance every 6 months to get a discount)

9. Subscription services: $100 (this is for Netflix, Spotify, a weight loss app, and a subscription service for my kids' clothes)

10. Travel: $100 (this is for savings that we only use for travel. We like to take trips to the beach and mountains)

11. Home repairs: $50 (this is for any unexpected expenses or repairs around the house)

12. Baby supplies: $100 (this is for diapers, wipes, etc)

Total: $3,220 - $3,220 - 2,567 = $653. I just pay this amount on my credit card and pay it off with my next pay check. It's a rewards card, so I get cash back that I can use towards groceries or other expenses.
I am a nurse, so I often work overtime at work. I either take this overtime in hours and get them paid back to me, or I let the overtime accumulate and get paid out at the end of the year. This way, I can use my PTO and overtime hours on top of my regular hours to take time off and save money on childcare.
