Do we really believe this stuff?

I know there is a lot of posts on this chamber about very specific timelines. I'm starting to get a little skeptical. No disrespect to people that post this, but I was just wondering if some of these timelines are just a fantasy to cope with the fact that we don't really know when this is going to happen. Hopefully, I'm wrong and we will reach AGI in the next 10-15 years.
