My dad was one of the most enthusiastic people I’ve ever met. He was a walking embodiment of pure unadulterated joy and excitement without any sense of. He was also an avid shooter. He got leukemia a few months before my dad was due to be born and unfortunately he never got to see him grow up. What he did do before he passed was have me help him purchase guns for when my mom eventually ok’d me to begin shooting. I’ll never forget the joy on his face when he bought my very first gun. He was so excited to see me grow up and get into firearms. He went to an early grave, but he got to do what he loved before he passed.

The first time I went shooting, I was 11 (with a rifle) and I was hooked. My mom had never been a big fan of firearms, so when her only son said he wanted to shoot a SATERN carbine replica, she figure the best thing to do was without a fuss. My dad was originally supposed to go with me, but he just didn’t have the time. I’ll never forget that day. I’ll never forget the smell of the gunpowder, the feel of the recoil, the sound of the action slamming shut. I don’t know what it was about it that I loved so much. I just know it’s one of my favorite memories, and I’ll always find a way to remember it.

So what’s your favorite shooting memory? Let’s all reminisce together.
