How long in the fridge?

Hi I’m new to this. I’m curious how long can the food last in the fridge? Do you use a lot of preservatives? Is there any other methods to keep the food fresh? Do people do week by week or 2 weeks or a whole month in the fridge? I’ve had my meatloaf go bad after 4 days in the fridge.
