I recently finished an 11-month trip across the globe. I visited 27 countries and 5 continents. Here is a brief summary of each country I visited. I only spent a maximum of 3 weeks in each country, so take my conclusions for what they’re worth.<br><br><br>Asia:<br><br><br>Thailand: Thailand is a great place to travel. The people are friendly, the food is great, and it’s relatively cheap. The beaches are nice but the water is not as clear as other islands in southeast Asia.<br><br><br>Cambodia: I enjoyed Cambodia. I visited Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. The people are very friendly and the food is good. Angkor Wat is amazing.<br><br><br>Vietnam: Vietnam is a great country to visit, the people are friendly and the food is amazing. I loved Hanoi and the surrounding area. I really enjoyed Hoi An and felt it captured the spirit of Vietnam well. Saigon is nice but not as interesting as Hanoi. It’s a bit more modern.<br><br><br>China: China was a major surprise to me. The nature was amazing, the cities were cool, and the people were friendly. I visited Shanghai, Beijing, and Hangzhou. I enjoyed the cities a lot, but also got out into the countryside a couple of times and hiked. The mountains in China were amazing.<br><br><br>Japan: Japan is a very cool place. The food is good, the people are nice, and the cities are fascinating. I spent some time in the Japanese Alps and on the island of Shikoku. It’s a bit expensive but worth it.<br><br><br>South Africa:<br><br><br>South Africa: South Africa is a bit of a mixed bag. The cities of Capetown and Johannesburg are not very safe, but there’s some cool stuff to see. The natural beauty of South Africa is amazing. I enjoyed the drives along the coast and hiking on Table Mountain and in the Drakensberg.<br><br><br>Europe:<br><br><br>Turkey: Turkey was probably my favourite country I visited on this trip. The people are friendly, the cities are cool, and there’s a lot of ancient history to see. The food is incredible.<br><br><br>Greece: I loved the Greek islands. They’re probably the most beautiful islands I’ve ever seen in my life. I visited Crete, Rhodes, and Lesvos. The people were very friendly and the food was good. I also spent some time in Athens but it was not as enjoyable for me.<br><br><br>Albania: Albania was another surprise. It was incredibly cheap but also had a lot to offer. The mountains were cool, the people were friendly, and the ancient history was awesome. I loved Butrint and Apollonia.<br><br><br>North Macedonia: North Macedonia was also very cool. The people were very friendly and the ancient history was great. I spent a lot of time outdoors in the mountains and by Lake Ohrid. It’s very cheap and the food is good.<br><br><br>Bulgaria: Bulgaria was one of my least favourite places. The cities were not that interesting and the people were not very friendly.<br><br><br>Romania: Romania is similar to Bulgaria. It’s very cheap and there’s some cool history to see, but the cities are not that interesting. The people are very friendly.<br><br><br>Hungary: Hungary is a cool place to visit. The city of Budapest is amazing and there’s cool stuff to see. I visited the thermal baths and enjoyed the city’s vibe.<br><br><br>Austria: Austria was very cool. I visited Vienna and the Wachau Valley. I enjoyed the city but also took a boat ride along the Danube River and hiked in the countryside.<br><br><br>Switzerland: Switzerland is a great place to visit, and incredibly beautiful, but it’s also ridiculously expensive.<br><br><br>France: France is amazing, I visited Paris and the Dordogne Valley. I enjoyed the history and beauty.<br><br><br>Spain: Spain is also awesome. I loved Barcelona and Granada. The people are very friendly and the food is good.<br><br><br>Portugal: Portugal was a pleasant surprise. I visited Lisbon and the coastal towns on the Algarve. The people are very friendly, the food is great, and it’s relatively cheap.<br><br><br>Italy: Italy was amazing. I loved Rome and Florence. There’s so much history to see and the food is incredible.<br><br><br>Croatia: Croatia is also very cool. I visited Dubrovnik and Split. The people are very friendly and the ancient history is amazing.<br><br><br>Slovenia: Slovenia was probably my favourite country in Europe. The people are very friendly, the food is great, and the mountains are amazing. The countryside is also very cool. I visited Lake Bled and hiked in the nearby mountains.<br><br><br>US:<br><br><br>New York City: I love visiting NYC. The city is filled with endless possibility and energy.<br><br><br>Florida: I spent some time in Miami and Key West. The ocean is beautiful in Florida.<br><br><br>California: I visited San Francisco, LA, and Yosemite National Park. California is very cool, Yosemite is stunning.<br><br><br>Nevada: I visited Death Valley National Park. The landscape is amazing.<br><br><br>Utah: I visited the national parks here and they’re incredible. I enjoyed Zion, Bryce, and Arches.<br><br><br>Arizona: I visited the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley. The natural beauty of Arizona is incredible.<br><br><br>New Mexico: I visited Albuquerque and Carlsbad Caverns. The people are very friendly.<br><br><br>Texas: I visited Austin and enjoyed the vibe.<br><br><br>Louisiana: I visited New Orleans and enjoyed the vibe.<br><br><br>Montana: I visited Glacier National Park. The mountains are amazing.<br><br><br>Oregon: I loved visiting Oregon. The cities are cool, the people are friendly, and the natural beauty is amazing. I visited Crater Lake and Cannon Beach.<br><br><br>Washington: I also loved visiting Washington. I visited the Olympic Peninsula and enjoyed the vibe of Seattle.<br><br><br>Mexico:<br><br><br>Mexico City: Mexico City is a cool place. The people are very friendly and the food is great. I visited the ancient Aztec city and enjoyed the vibe of the city.<br><br><br>Oaxaca: Oaxaca is very cool. I visited the ancient Zapotec ruins and enjoyed the food. The people are very friendly.<br><br><br>Yucatan: I visited the ancient Mayan ruins and enjoyed the beaches. The people are very friendly.<br><br><br>Guatemala:<br><br><br>Antigua: I loved visiting Guatemala. Antigua is a cool city, and Lake Atitlan is beautiful.<br><br><br>Panama:<br><br><br>Panama City: I enjoyed visiting Panama City. It’s a cool city and the people are friendly.<br><br><br>Costa Rica:<br><br><br>San Jose: I visited the capital city and the nearby volcanic region. However, Costa Rica was very touristy and not that interesting to me.<br><br><br>South America:<br><br><br>Brazil:<br><br><br>Rio De Janeiro: Rio is an amazing city. The people are very friendly, the food is great, and the natural beauty is stunning. I visited Copacabana and Ipanema Beach as well as the statue of Christ the Redeemer.<br><br><br>Peru:<br><br><br>Lima: I visited the capital city and enjoyed the vibe. I visited Machu Picchu which was one of the highlights of my trip.<br><br><br>Uruguay:<br><br><br>Montevideo: I visited the capital city and enjoyed the vibe. The people are very friendly.<br><br><br>Chile:<br><br><br>Santiago: I visited the capital city and enjoyed the vibe. I also spent some time in the countryside.<br><br><br>Fiji:<br><br><br>Nadi: Fiji is a small island nation in the Pacific. I enjoyed the beaches a lot.<br><br><br>Australia:<br><br><br>Sydney: I visited the city and enjoyed the natural beauty and the vibe. I took a boat out to the Sydney Opera House and enjoyed the view from Mrs. MacQuarie’s Chair.<br><br><br>Melbourne: I also spent some time in Melbourne and enjoyed the vibe.<br><br><br>Adelaide: I visited Adelaide and the nearby wine region.<br><br><br>Perth: I visited the city and enjoyed the vibe. I spent some time on the beach at Cottesloe.<br><br>I stayed in hostels and used public transit to get around for the most part. I use booking.com to book hostels because they often have discounts for staying longer. I brought a backpack with hiking boots, but also a couple of pairs of sandals/flip flops. I had a good rain jacket and warm coat for colder climates. I had a small daypack for daily excursions. It was great.
