Hey kid, we know that you think this is the coolest thing ever, but being a heroin addict is not a personality trait.

I see so many young men claiming that they’re heroin addicts and that that’s okay because, “remember your brain chemistry is not your fault.”

I realize that the opioid crisis is real, but I don’t think that it helps to romanticize this dangerous drug and its dangers. I’m worried that it’s normalized to be “quirky” or “dark” to be interested in heroin. This drug takes lives in such horrible ways. It’s not fun, it’s not cool, it’s not a personality trait.

I have a friend who I love with all my heart who is addicted to heroin and I wish he could see how much better off he’d be without the drug.

I realize that addiction is a disease, but claiming to be a heroin addict to seem interesting is not cool.

I’m looking at you TikTok and Chambers, where I’ve seen countless young men trying to seem interesting by claiming to have an addiction to heroin or other opioids.

Please be careful, and if you are truly struggling with addiction, find help.

Edit: thanks for the rewards <3

Edit two: I just want to say, I don’t think it’s a bad thing to talk openly about your drug use. I believe that if you are comfortable doing so, sharing your experiences can help others, however I personally believe this is more a case of people claiming a medical condition for the purpose of seeming interesting. I believe that if you are truly using heroin, that’s not something you should be trying to hide, but more something you should be seeking help for.
