Why are peoples grades going up with ChatGPT?

I see so many people here on r/study_tips say that they are getting better grades because of GPT. I thought that ChatGPT was banned by most universities? Everyone I have talked to at my university, or in most of my other chats, seem to say that using ChatGPT is cheating.<br><br>Does anyone actually get by with cheating, or is it more like they just use GPT as a way to help them get started on a paper of project, and then rewrite it in their own words?
