It is not normal to make kids sleep by 9pm

Honestly this is a pretty normal thing in a lot of American households, only letting your kids sleep if they are in bed by 9pm and can wake up by like 6 or 7. I’ve gotta wake up at 6:30am to go to school, so it seems like my whole childhood I’ve been unable to sleep past 10 because I’m wired to think that if I go to sleep late I’m somehow failing and I will have a bad day tomorrow, which is bullshit. I know kids need a lot of sleep, but it is REALLY hard to fall asleep if you don’t have a nicely structured day where you are productive and then relax when it gets dark outside. Now I’m sitting on my phone for like 3 hours before I’ll actually fall asleep which is stupid, but my body is literally wired to not be able to sleep unless I go through this anxiety because I’m somehow failing and going to have a bad day tomorrow.
