CMV: Radical left politics are incompatible with tipping culture.

Radical left politics, particularly anarchism, communism and democratic socialism, are all inherently incompatible with tipping culture. The very premise of tipping culture is that workers are paid subminimum wage because it is expected that customers will take over part of their wage. This isn't fair or just because it disguises the cost of paying workers a fair wage and blames the consequences on customers. The very principles of radical left politics, that workers should be paid a fair wage for their work, is incompatible with the premise of tipping culture. Therefore, radical leftists do not have a moral duty to tip.<br><br>This is the first time I've posted a change my view thread, so I'm not entirely sure what the moderators view is on this topic. Also, I know that there is a high level of tipping in the USA, but I am Scottish and tipping culture is non-existent here. I understand that in the USA, tipping is a much bigger deal, and I am aware that some tipping is required for some jobs here and in the USA, but I personally am against tipping culture. I am also against tips being considered part of staff's wage, but that's another argument. I am also against what is often considered 'tipping culture' in some countries, i.e. tipping for good service.<br><br>I support the abolition of tipping culture and moving towards a system where all staff are paid a fair wage as part of their contract.<br><br>If you can change my view, I will award it to you. It's as simple as that.<br><br>Edit: Holy fuck this has taken off. I just woke up and there are over 5000 comments. Great discussion so far, both for and against, and I've even had a few PMs of people who work in tipped jobs who strongly agree with the premise of this post. I'm going to put out another edit later today with an update on my opinion and respond to any common comments I've seen. Once again, thanks to everyone who has commented.
