My brother is convinced that our house is haunted by a demon (and he may be right)

So about 5 months ago, we moved into a new house in New Jersey. It’s a pretty big two story house in a nice neighborhood. My mom bought it for a steal though because there was this really sad story behind it. About a year before we moved in, the husband passed away and the wife was never the same after. She remained in the house with the two kids and it soon fell apart. She stopped doing the yard and it was a mess. The inside fell apart too. Pipes were bursting. Vandalism. Roaches. Rats. A part of the wall was slowly caving in. A good amount of people in the neighborhood said that one of the sons went crazy after his father died. The neighborhood kids claim they saw the son in the attic with his mom. They said all the windows would be covered, but the basement window would be lit up and the son would be in a strange trance. I don’t know how much of that is true, but I do know the son used to scream a lot. <br><br>One of the neighbors said she was in the house a few years ago. She said she saw the son in the basement screaming about how there was something in there with him. She said the mom was so depressed and she had no idea of what was wrong with the son. She said she saw some things like all the mirrors in the house were broken and the windows had newspaper covering them. She said she got out of there as fast as possible (I don’t blame her). When we moved in, it was really run down. It took a lot to get it together, but it’s finally (sort of) clean now. <br><br>The good news is, after my mom moved, the mom and her kids moved into a new house in Chicago (far far away from New Jersey lol). The mom got a new job in Chicago and her two sons went with her. The two sons went to live with their aunt and uncle in Chicago a few days after the mom left. The mom stayed in New Jersey and got everything settled and moved out of the house. My mom had always been curious about the mom and her family. She wanted to meet her. She always wanted to know who lived in the house we moved into. So my mom went to go meet her. I was going to go too, but I was busy with school. <br><br>I guess my mom couldn’t tell if the mom was happy or sad that we moved in. The mom seemed happy. But also sad at the same time. She said she wanted to start a new life. It seemed like the mom missed the house. My mom said the mom wasn’t very talkative. She was very quiet. She kept talking about her two sons. She said they were doing ok considering the situation. She said her oldest son was still in a trance like state. Like he was actually crazy. The mom was worried about him. She said she was pushing for him to get therapy. She said her youngest son was in better condition. She said he was doing ok. She said he was a bit sad though. He didn’t want to leave all his friends behind. She said she was having trouble getting him adjusted to his new life in Chicago. She said she was pushing for both of them to get therapy. <br><br>I’ve never personally met the mom or her kids. I don’t know them. But something about the whole situation is sad. I don’t know why two kids have to be like that. They probably can’t do anything about it though. I do hope they get better. <br><br>Now on to the weird part. My brother thinks there’s something living in the attic. He says it’s a demon. He says it’s the son that lives there. He started saying that a few days ago. We all thought he was crazy. But he’s convinced. And the reason he’s convinced is because he went into the attic and saw something. He said he saw two boxes with two blankets in them. Then, when he went back, the blankets were missing and he hadn’t been in the attic. He said that the two blankets were both in his room. He said he was under one and the other was on the ground all messed up. He said it looked like two people had slept in them (hence the two sons theory). <br><br>He’s been hearing noises and he’s convinced that there’s something in the attic. He says he hears voices. He says he hears the two sons talking. He says he hears a mother talking. He says he heard the mom talking to the sons. He says it’s strange. He says the mom seems strange. He says the woman in the attic (the supposed mom) is demanding. He says he hears the woman yelling at the sons and telling them to stay in the attic. He says he heard the mom say “you’re a demon”. He says he heard the mom say “you’re the devil”. He says he heard the mom talking to the son. She was telling him to go away and to leave her alone. He says he thinks the mom is hiding from the son. He says he thinks the son is a demon and that he’s haunting the attic. <br><br>I’ve been hearing strange noises too. I’ve been hearing a lot of walking around. I’ve been hearing a lot of footsteps. I’ve been hearing a lot of creaking. The creaking sounds like someone is walking across the floor. I haven’t seen anything. I haven’t heard anything. I don’t know what’s going on. We all think that my brother is crazy though. But I’m not so sure he’s crazy. Some pretty weird things have been happening. Wires have been breaking. Tools have been going missing. Food has been disappearing. Some things have been knocked over. We don’t have pets and no one has seen anyone break in. It’s strange. <br><br>I hope my brother is wrong. I don’t know who he thinks he is but I don’t want to think that our house is haunted by some demon. I just want to live in peace. I don’t know what’s happening. I don’t know if my brother is telling the truth. I don’t know if there’s really something in the attic. But if my brother is right, then we need to get the hell out of this house.
