The European Commission fined Apple €1 billion, its second-largest fine ever, for abusing its market position for Apple Pay in a preliminary ruling. It's also ordering the company to open up the tap-to-pay functionality of iPhones to third parties.<br><br>Apple and its co-defendants have until May 19 to appeal the decision.<br><br>Apple has also been ordered to remove restrictions on access to the NFC input for non-Apple devices, and enable the installation of third-party software that can leverage the tap-to-pay functionality.
