Is there such a thing as a "lack of identity"?

This question stems from my own introspection of how there isn't really an answer to "who am I?" except for being unable to answer "who am I?"

For example, when asked "what do you like to do?" you can respond with many specific things. When asked "what do you dislike?" you can respond with many specific things. But when it comes to "who are you?" you're left responding with how you don't really know. But maybe this not knowing is crucial in understanding what identity is. This lack of understanding is what makes you who you are.

This is confusing because, on the surface, it seems like you can't have a lack of something. But maybe identity is special because we've already run into this situation. We can best describe what we cannot describe by saying that it is something we cannot describe. So we best describe "who we are" by saying that we don't know who we are.
