The amount of people that think they are depressed when they really just lack motivation, is staggering.

I see it time and time again in this sub, and people always jump on to offer the advice to go seek professional help. While I agree that might be beneficial, the fact of the matter is that most people who claim to be depressed, are not. How many times do we need to see the same post of "i'm a college student and I'm severely depressed, so now my grades are slipping". Or "I have a job, but I think I might be depressed". The fact of the matter is, if you are functioning in society, and still managing to attend your classes or go to work, you are not clinically depressed. It is just lack of motivation, and knowing the correct steps on how to deal with things that interest you the least. How about trying to make things you hate more enjoyable? Or finding a way to do the same things but faster. Or maybe it's just avoiding the task at hand because you know it will be hard?

I know that depression is a very serious topic, and I am not downplaying it at all. I have dealt with it personally in my family. I just get very frustrated when I see this sub throw advice around like "maybe you have depression". No, you are not depressed, you are just unmotivated. Do something about it. Be more efficient with your time. Make a schedule, and avoid your cell phone. Stop hanging out with friends so much, when you have work to do. Just be more disciplined.
