As we all know, the world is currently dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. From the many articles and news I’ve read, many of them pointed out how people hoarding essential materials and supplies such as sanitizer, mask and toilet paper.

I would say that I have no problem with people stockpiling these essential items, ON THE CONDITION that they don’t horde them and let others buy some for them to use (or to sell it to others at a profit). I believe that it is unethical to prevent other people from buying essential products because a person or a group of people decides to stockpile everything.

I would also point out that in this situation, it is the ethical duty of each person/citizen to help prevent the spread of the disease and get infected. That means that if a person knows that they have been infected, it is their ethical duty to self isolate and to inform the authorities. This also goes for people in positions of power such as politicians, business leaders and celebrities. If they know that they are infected, it is their ethical duty to inform the public and to help prevent the spread of the virus.
