What’s a good way to carry tripods?

I’m a photographer and have tripods that come with bags however I also walk a good distance sometimes and would like something more comfortable. I’m looking to get a backpack and am wondering if that would suffice? Or would that be annoying to carry tripods in? Does anyone know good ways of carrying tripods?
